SAMNET calls on all University of Pretoria stakeholders to contact and engage their leadership, and to express the urgent need for the university to break all relationships with Israeli academics and institutions.

In our view it is untenable that, in the face of the evidence before the International Court of Justice and the arrest warrant applications made by the ICC Prosecutor, the UP leadership continues to delay. We hold that there is clear evidence of complicity and support by Israeli academic, medical and scientific institutions for the military, the occupation of Palestine and what is being done in Gaza.

Where the university stands

A draft document tabled by a group of concerned staff and students asks the university to boycott all Israeli academic institutions, and calls for an audit of UP’s investments connected to Israel. After a senate meeting, the university’s spokesperson told the Mail & Guardian that a decision had been taken to seek input from a broader representation of stakeholders and to rework the draft.
