SAMNET urges members of the public to register as voters.
Following the national and provincial elections, various municipal wards were vacated, and by-elections follow to replace those councillors. Municipal by-elections are traditionally poorly supported, which means small blocks of votes can decide them.
For these, and for every future election, the first requirement is simply to be registered.
Why it matters
As the 2024 elections around the world showed, the political balance is shifting. Our political participation is crucial to our future and to the country — and it starts with voter registration.
Service delivery in our communities and municipalities is shaped by the quality, qualifications, skills and integrity of our ward councillors. We cannot complain about the failures if we do not take part in choosing them.

We encourage all Musaajid, businesses, schools and civic organisations to help register voters now — not only for by-elections, but in ongoing preparation for the local government elections.
