Few Muslims born into Muslim families appreciate the challenges, the fear and the experience of reverts, or of non-Muslims stepping into a mosque for the first time. What many of us take entirely for granted can be a source of real stress — and it is on us to make it easy for them.

That matters even more for women, who may have fewer support structures and fewer opportunities to be brought in.

National Mosque Open Day, and mosque open days generally, are important on many levels — and this is one of them.
