SAMNET encourages the Muslim community to become better informed about, and actively involved in, climate change and food and water security.

As custodians of the planet, we need to lead on the issues that will inevitably reach our communities, our country, our region and the world.

Relief alone will not be enough

Our generosity through relief is real, but it is reactive — and it will not hold if we allow the crisis to keep developing. We must invest our resources and our skills proactively.

We call on all stakeholders to commit 5% — or at the very least 1% — of all charitable giving to programmes and organisations working to prevent and solve the root causes of the crises we keep having to respond to.

The disasters will keep increasing, and they will become unmanageable, however blessed or well off we may feel now. We need to prevent, not treat the consequences.

We will be accountable for the state in which we leave the earth to the next generation.
