Archive post. Issued by SAMNET on 18 July 2024 and published here as part of SAMNET’s advocacy archive. The call for volunteers is a standing one — email info@samnet.co.za.

SAMNET has had a very positive response to its message on alcohol advertising and controls. We want to take that further, and to call for more engagement and participation in this project.

It has been done before

There are many examples of civil society and legislative action that have shifted alcohol, addiction and abuse. Iceland is the clearest of them: a national programme that produced an enormous social change within a single generation. Some even attribute part of the success of their national football team to it.

The question for us is not whether change is possible. It is whether we are willing to organise for it.
