UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk urged all States with influence to do everything in their power to halt the crisis in Gaza and the rising violence in the West Bank.
In a press briefing on 16 April 2024, the High Commissioner pointed to the increasingly horrific human rights and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, targeted attacks in the West Bank, and the heightened risk of a wider escalation across the Middle East.
Resolving the situation of civilians in Gaza, he said, must remain the priority. The briefing set out that Israel continues to impose unlawful restrictions on the entry and distribution of humanitarian assistance, and to carry out widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.

- An immediate ceasefire
- The release of the hostages
- Full, unfettered humanitarian aid allowed to flow immediately
- That those delivering or trying to reach humanitarian assistance must never be attacked
