Did you know that two of the five books shortlisted in the non-fiction category of the 2024 SA Book Awards were by Muslim women?
- Who Will Rule South Africa? — co-authored by Qaanitah Hunter.
- Cape Malay Cooking: My Story, My Heritage — by Fatima Sydow, who passed away in December 2023.
Two very different books — one on the politics of the present moment, one on a culinary heritage carried through generations — and between them a fair answer to anyone who imagines the Muslim contribution to South African letters is a narrow one.
We congratulate our sisters on their contribution to South African literacy, culture, history and knowledge.
