India

Research published by the think tank India Hate Lab recorded 41 incidents of communal tension and violence in Maharashtra — India’s richest state — between January and October 2023.

United Kingdom

A former British diplomat working on an inspection of a local council in east London was accused of endorsing social media posts described as Islamophobic.

United States

Cornell University’s president, Martha E. Pollack, told the university community she was “horrified” that a Muslim Cornell student had been spat upon while walking in Collegetown, and said anyone identified would be held fully accountable.

The round-up also flagged the nomination of Adeel Abdullah Mangi to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mangi would have been the first Muslim American federal appellate judge. At his Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, rather than being questioned on his legal background or judicial philosophy, he faced insinuations connecting him — a Pakistani American lawyer with no connection to the groups named — to antisemitism and to the perpetrators of 11 September.
