  • The Night of Ascent – Lailatul Miraj

    27 Rajab 1442

What is the significance of Israa and Miraj?

Allah (SWT) took the beloved Prophet Muhammed (SAW) on a sacred journey in just one night. The Prophet (PBUH) traveled from Makkah to Al-Aqsa and thereafter ascended to the Heavens with the Angel Jibreel.

Many miracles occurred on this night :

    • The pure heart of the Prophet (PBUH) was washed with Zam-Zam water.
    • The Prophet travelled through all 7 levels of Heaven, in which he met and saw Great Prophets on each level.
    • The Prophet (PBUH) saw both the blessings of Jannah (paradise) and the torment of Jahannam (hell)
    • The Amount of sallah (Prayer) was reduced to 5 daily prayers
    • Allah (SWT) Promised to forgive the sins of the Ummah (Except those who associate partners with Allah)

    It was narrated that:

“When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was taken on the Night Journey (Lailat al Miraj), he came to Sidrah Al-Muntaha, which is in the sixth heaven. That is where everything that comes up from below ends, and where everything that comes down from above, until it is taken from it. Allah says: When what covered the lote-tree did cover it! [1] He said: “It was moths of gold. And I was given three things: The five daily prayers, the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will be forgiven for Al-Muqhimat.” The sins of the worst magnitude that drag one into the Fire.” (An-Nihayah)

The journey is significant in showing Muslims the Mercy and power of Allah (SWT). The last two ayats of Surah Baqarah were also revealed on this night in which Allah Says to mankind :

Second Last Ayat of Surah Al-Baqarah

Translation: The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.”

    Last Ayat of Surah Al-Baqarah

Translation: Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”

The Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him) did not celebrate this night. We merely commemorate this special night by engaging in acts of Ibadah (worshiping Allah), Seeking forgiveness, Forgiving others and purifying our hear and soul, improving our level of spirituality, Helping those in need and performing good deeds.

We Pray Allah (SWT) guides the Muslim Ummah (Humankind), lessens the burdens of all those suffering all over the world, forgives us for our shortcomings and sins and grants us peace, contentment and barakah (prosperity). Ameen!

  • TIME TO NOMINATE MUSLIM MEMBERS

PROFESSIONAL PROVIDENT SOCIETY HOLDINGS TRUST (PPS) TRUSTEE ELECTION

The South African Muslim Network (SAMNET) would like our community to Identify/Headhunt and Nominate Suitably Qualified, Academically and Experienced people who could serve as trustees of the The Professional Provident Society (PPS).

We believe it is important for Muslims to be represented in all aspects of life and be part of various Boards, Charities and Welfare Organizations in Religious or Secular Organizations/Associations/NGOs, as it is an important part of giving back to the community and the country as well as a form of dawah.

Our participation and willingness to contribute and uplift others, together with our Akhlaaq, is an excellent and practical method of correcting misconceptions about Islam, Muslims and debunking stereotypes about us.

To this end, let us identify eligible and suitable candidates for the PPS board and then ask ordinary members of PPS to vote for them.

We would like you to forward this to friends, family, colleagues and/or acquaintances that know of members of PPS who want to make themselves available or to suggest candidates as soon as possible.

SAMNET would like to compile a list of Muslim candidates for the board elections of PPS and then send out the list to ordinary members of PPS to vote before the Election deadline.
