RE: COMPLAINT – SAFM – NANCY RICHARDS AND FAYZAL FROM MAYFAIR

Complaint One:

SAFM has allowed a regular caller who calls himself “Fayzal from Mayfair” unfettered and unrestricted access to go on a malicious vendetta and campaign against Muslims and Islam. Although he also tends to criticise one or two other religions it appears he has an agenda to demonise Islam and Muslims and is allowed, virtually daily, to make the most derogatory statements about Islam, Muslims and the prophets that Islam recognizes without challenge from presenters.

Complaint Two: NANCY RICHARDS SHOW AT 1PM WEEKDAYS.

At the beginning of every show Nancy Richards provides a summary of events affecting woman all over the world. Repeatedly almost three times a week her summary will include negative stories about Muslim women in Muslim countries or negative stories related to Islam.

Whilst we do not condone the abuse of women or the incorrect things done to women by Muslims or anyone else, we find it strange that she seems to find only negative stories about Muslims and Islam.

We are not campaigning for her to find negative stories against other religious groups but we find it strange that she finds only negative stories about Islam and Muslim women and Muslim stories. We rarely here about he positive human interest stories about Muslim women all across the globe and particularly how women have survived and triumphed in countries under brutal occupation like in Palestine,Irag,Afghanistan,Somalia,Libya etc.

We have made our concerns previously know to SAFM Management about Fayzal from Mayfair. There seems to be no attempt to curtail his Islamaphobic comments. Similarly we have communicated our concerns to Nancy Richards but there is no improvement nor has there been any attempt for balance in her shows.

Complaint Three: NANCY RICHARDS SHOW – 6th December 2011

Nancy Richards on the 6th of December 2011 had as her show guest Fayzal from Mayfair. The topic was “Religion and the Abuse of Women”. Strangely enough she had only one religion to talk about and that was Islam. As you listen to her show you will find that Fayzal the infamous and very well known Islamaphobe was allowed to make completely false claims about Islam and the Quraan or the interpretation of Quraan on the show yet there was astoundingly no Islamic scholar to explain or discuss the ridiculous claims the guest was making.

This complete lack of balance with a guest who is unashamedly a rabid Islamaphobe violates every code of balanced shows or ethical code of the SABC, ICASA and the BCCSA. There was never after that to date a semblance of balance by getting an Islamic religious leader or scholar to discuss the grossly inaccurate claims and since the show was not a call in show, the public did not even have a chance to point out the inaccuracies of the claims made on national radio.

Gateway Muslim Prayer Facility

The Muslim community are loyal supporters of the Gateway complex since its’ opening, both as shoppers, as well as tenants. A positive power of retail strategy, to ensure sales, is to keep shoppers within a complex for as long as possible. Bearing this in mind, we bring to your attention, that according to Islamic Law, Islam dictates that Muslims perform five (very short) prayer rituals per day, within a required period of time. Four of these times fall within normal shopping hours. READ MORE
